Description

This species, grows mainly in deciduous forests, beech, oak, chestnut, hazel or sometimes under coniferous forests, enjoying heavy and very humid soils. The trumpet of death appears in autumn. This wild mushroom is sometimes difficult to distinguish from the soil because of its dark color, irregular shape and because it is often covered with dead leaves.

This mushroom, which rarely exceeds 10 cm, is very meaty and entirely hollow, in the shape of a trumpet, flared in a funnel. The wavy exterior is bluish grey, the interior black or fawn.

The trumpet of death is a light mushroom, rich in fiber, minerals and vitamins that allow the proper functioning of the transit, cells, promote blood circulation and bone development.

The trumpet of death can be eaten fresh, dried, canned or frozen.
